A Letter to Prospective Pastors

We invite you to read our letter to prospective pastors, which shares more about Clifton Baptist Church, our heart for ministry, and what we are prayerfully seeking in our next pastor. Our hope is that this letter will give you a better sense of who we are as a congregation, our commitment to God’s Word, and the opportunities for ministry in Clifton and the surrounding community.

Pastor — Clifton Baptist Church (Clifton, Maine)

Clifton Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a Christ-centered pastor to shepherd our congregation and lead us in our mission to glorify God, proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, make disciples, and reach our rural community with the transforming power of the Kingdom of God.

We are a welcoming rural church committed to biblical orthodoxy, the authority of Scripture, and the ancient faith once delivered to the saints, while actively engaging our community with the love, truth, and power of Christ. We desire a pastor who is deeply devoted to Jesus, rooted in the Word, dependent upon the Holy Spirit, and passionate about evangelism, discipleship, and prayer.

Qualifications  The candidate must:

  • Meet the biblical qualifications for elder/pastor (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9)
  • Be a man pursuing a heart after God, marked by humility and integrity
  • Hold a clear commitment to the inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of Scripture
  • Be able to preach and teach Scripture faithfully through expository and topical preaching
  • Be committed to intercessory prayer as a personal and corporate ministry priority
  • Be open to and dependent upon the leading and gifts of the Holy Spirit in accordance with Scripture
  • Have a heart for evangelism, discipleship, and community engagement
  • Be willing to partner with other gospel-centered churches and ministries

Responsibilities  The pastor will:

  • Preach and teach the Bible faithfully, calling people to follow Christ in daily life
  • Lead the church in Spirit-empowered evangelism, discipleship, and Great Commission living
  • Cultivate a strong culture of prayer, including intercession and spiritual dependence
  • Provide pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and spiritual encouragement
  • Equip believers for ministry, helping them discover and use their gifts
  • Develop outreach ministries to children, youth, families, and the broader community (including VBS and local evangelism)
  • Strengthen a healthy multi-generational church life that honors older saints and disciples younger families

Ministry Context

This is a part-time position of approximately 25 hours per week and includes a parsonage with utilities provided. Candidates should be open to bi-vocational ministry if needed.   We are seeking a humble, mission-minded servant-leader with a burden for the lost, a love for the church, and a desire to see both spiritual growth and gospel impact in our community.
